PIASTRI TRIUMPHS IN THE BELGIAN GRAND PRIX AS McLAREN LOCKS OUT TOP TWO

The legendary Spa-Francorchamps Circuit played host to a dramatic 2025 Formula 1® Moët & Chandon Belgian Grand Prix from July 25–27, as changeable weather and strategic gambles tested the grid’s limits in the thirteenth round of the season.

Oscar Piastri delivered a commanding performance in mixed conditions to claim his sixth win of the season, fending off teammate and title rival Lando Norris in a McLaren 1–2 finish. The Australian crossed the line in 1:25:22.601, extending his lead in the Drivers’ Championship to 16 points. Norris kept the pressure on late in the race but ultimately finished 3.415s behind, while Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium for Ferrari, over 20 seconds adrift.

Rain moments before the race start led to an 80-minute delay and a Safety Car-led rolling start. Once green flag racing began on Lap 5, Piastri immediately made his move—overtaking polesitter Norris up the Kemmel Straight to seize the lead, a position he would not relinquish.

As the track dried rapidly, the field began switching from intermediate to slick tyres. Piastri pitted on Lap 12 for medium tyres, with Norris switching to hards a lap later. A slightly slower stop left the Briton 9.1 seconds adrift once up to speed. Despite a late-race charge, the Briton’s small error at La Source on the penultimate lap sealed the result. Behind the frontrunners, Max Verstappen narrowly missed out on a podium in fourth for Red Bull, with George Russell fifth for Mercedes. Alex Albon impressed in sixth for Williams, fending off a charging Lewis Hamilton, who recovered from a pit lane start to finish seventh.

Remarkably, all 20 drivers made it to the chequered flag in a race that, despite a chaotic buildup, ran incident-free after its delayed start.
